Richland County, Illinois
Edition of 250
A young Great Horned Owl swooped down and grabbed this crow one morning while I was out walking around the backside of my lake. I watched him land in a grove of trees were he spent an hour or so listening to the other crows squawk and pester him from above. After finally having enough of their torment, he flew to the other side of the lake underneath a spruce tree where he remained for the rest of the day guarding his prize. I waited until sunset to approach and watch from a closer vantage point. I am still a little stunned to have witnessed such behavior from a known nocturnal hunter.
